Interesting. Thnx for the comment. It is comments like that one I like as it builds on the post :). If spam, then great spam. For the next campaign try to set it to CPM and see what happens :). I use CPC to test creatives and then I change it to CPM cause I tend to get more response out of it.

Hi Jesper,

I just ran a short campaign through Facebook Ads and it was incredible. I made a simple ad and managed to get a 0,05% response.

In addition to the ads we had a Facebook Fan-exclusive, making fans able to download our music for free - while non-fans would have to go to iTunes or other music stores in order to get the songs.

Worked really well and we managed to get around 100 fans in two weeks and about 50 USD.

Targeting ads to a FBML-page and having fan exclusive-content is the best combination within online marketing at the moment. As far as I can tell.

Hey,

Log into the account that is running the ad.

Then copy and paste this link into your browser:
http://www.facebook.com/ads/manage/adgroups.php

Click the name of the campaign you want to edit.

Then you change the settings to paused on the campaign you're running. It says active if active.

My initial reaction is "No way!. This is not for every company." And I guess I still believe so. BUT, you actually made me think about it in a new way, and I'm now actually considering it as an option for my company. :)
One problem though I have with Pages is that I've never understood who and why people hang out on those. It is often so empty of soul and action.
Another point of view is that when you buy something, most of the time you want it to be a fast transaction. I rarely want to engage in company I'm buying from: give me my trousers/phonebill/trainticket/doctor and leave me alone!

Ps. The submit button is out of place in the comment section (FF 3.5/10.5).
Ps2. You should upgrade the comments-wp.php to leverage the "new" threaded feature.

Yes, there are many reasons why not. The most important being that you have the opportunity to "collect" your fans on your page and then communicate with them again and again and again if you lead the traffic to your own page. If you decide to target your website with the traffic then you will loose a lot of the potential in being able to communicate with your fans more than once for the same cost.

It is a much lower threshold to become a fan of a page than it is to for example register in an external member system. Even though you use Facebook connect to extract the information, you still loose a lot of sign ups by pushing the traffic to your website.

Then there are softer values that makes it a lot better to make a lasting connection on a facebook page if your first connection was made on Facebook. Just as it is easier to get a follower on Twitter if your first contact was on Twitter.

You can then segment your offer towards being a "Facebook exclusive" and communicate through the Facebook news stream making your offer relevant regardless if it is exclusive. But I think I'll have to write a post on that one in order to sufficiently back up my statement.

Thanks a lot for the clear layout. I'm curious though to why you would advice against targeting a website with the ad? Is there any reason beyond "every company should have a FB Page, and that's what you should push"?
