Well it is a mixture between different tools. Both on site and off site KPIs needs to be taken into account. For private websites such as this blog I use socialmention and google analytics combined with bit.ly. That works the best for me.

For clients I've used anything ranging from radian6 to Silverbakk. Depending upon how sophisticated your KPIs are the more advanced a tool and time spent on analyzing the data needs to be in place.

I haven't tried Sysomos Heart Beat, I'll give it a try.

And what kind of tools do you guys use to measure your companies KPI's?
I just had a look att Sysomos Heart Beat for an example, but I think it's really hard to get really valuable KPI's out of that system. What do you think?

Would just like to add that you can use KPIs in social media for tactics as well. Example: you have a story that you tweet. You write two different versions of the message to try out which is most successful in terms of re-tweets or new followers etc. Conclusion, to improve your tactics you make a hypothesis, tweet, analyse and learn. Nxt time you'll start at a higher level of knowledge.
