Didn't notice this blog post until now (when we changed back to WP and saw the incoming link). Thanks for mentioning our website. We have actually changed to a new one now but we still use social media icons both for our corporate website and our own personal pages (http://www.lindapierre.com) and I think they add not only a "nice touch" to the site but also make it so much easier to find a persons or a companies other whereabouts online.

@Anders - Doh!! So you mean I have to do what I say??? :)

I don't use buttons, but I do use text links. On my about-page I have a link to my linkedin-profile and in the site-wide right hand navigation I have links to my twitter, jaiku and bloggy accounts.

I really should add some social media buttons and other linkability stuff to my posts... but I just haven't come around to it yet...

Thnx for pointing that out as it was one of my concerns with writing this post ;)

Exactly.. there is no way of altering the embed codes and thus you cannot enter your own back links into the copy and paste-able code that people can embed in their own websites.

If you make your own field with for this purpose, then you can add the embed-code of your liking and thus gain full potential from it.

I agree with most of the things (yes, I'm using ShareThis myself because I'm lazy and think it's neat). However, I think no 7 in your list is strange. Have you mixed things up? If I use ShareThis on my site, meaning embeded their code on my site I have nothing to win from what you write in no 7. But sure, ShareThis has. If it was me providing embeded code for you, of course I should have a back-link to my page. But that's not the case here.

It would be really interesting to get your recomendation of another plugin with social buttons. Maybe you know of one that enable to edit what buttons to use?

Best!
