3 Reasons to like the New Facebook Design

I know some of you have been able to see the new Facebook Design for a while. For me today was the first day I got a sneak peak of it. I really like what I see. The new logged in features look a lot better from a user perspective and they have collected all the main navigation in a top-right manner. Follows the flow of “normal” navigational structures and I believe this will only allow for Facebook to become accessible to more people.

To read about all the changes go here: A Guide to Facebooks Homepage

1. Search is more central

As you can see they have added the search bar to the middle of the screen making it as accessible as the status update bar. I believe this will drastically increase searches in Facebook. Not only for navigational purposes as people have been using it but also for informational searches.

2. Easily Accessible Account setting

I guess my tutorials on how to change your privacy settings will become obsolete and I’ll have to go redirect those old tutorials to new material. *Sigh…* I’ve clicked around a bit and it is SO easy to reach what you want now. The old drop down was messy and the choices within it was retarded.

I believe I might not even have to write another 7 most important privacy settings for facebook now.

3. Congratulations Page owners

Although the page does not change in its setup YET, Notifications have become as easily accessible as Messages. This means that the group feature of being able to send messages to your group members has lost its advantage to the Page notifications. Remember, you have only been able to send Updates as a page owner. These Updates will receive more space now that they appear next to the message inbox. Not quite yet the same exposure, but at least now the users will see them 🙂

This is because of 2 changes:

a. The more visible notifications

b. The left drop navigation

These are my initial reflections. I promise to get back to you with a deeper analysis as I find out more things.
